The objective of the course is to provide an introduction to the problems of corporate governance and the interaction between the enterprise, government and society as a whole.
We must accept that corporate governance – whether of a small business or a multinational – and the relationship between ethics, governance and management is now a firm fact in business. We are required to escape the mechanistic, outputs-based governance approach, and adopt an outcomes-based approach: how does management add value and build loyalty amongst stakeholders, how does management relate to and react with non-executives who have corporate involvement, how do we behave when managing a company in terms of the ethics, trust and the wider relationship with society.
The course covers the following topics:
- Trust, ethics and responsibility in corporate governance;
- Education in governance;
- Effective corporate management – outputs to outcomes;
- Lessons from the global environment.
